Panda Software: Top 10 Viruses in March

Panda Software has published the top ten viruses most often detected by the free online antivirus Panda ActiveScan. Despite the significant number of infections in March, there were no major changes in the viral activity ranking. As in previous months, the most frequently detected malicious code was an FTP script associated with the Sdbot family, with nine out of ten viruses unchanged since February.

The second most frequently detected malicious code in March was the Netsky worm.P, which uses email and file sharing programs for distribution, and exploits a flaw in the Outlook preview pane on systems without the patch installed. Despite the fact that it has been in circulation for two years now, it is still one of the most common threats.

Another commonly found threat was Exploit / Metafile, an exploit for a vulnerability in the processing of WMF files in Windows. Since its inception, this vulnerability has been widely exploited on all kinds of web pages containing malware due to the large number of non-updated computers.

The rating also contains threats such as Tearec.A (CME-24), known as Kamasutra or Nyxem, which has caused serious concern due to its activation function on the third of every month, even though its effects were less severe than initially thought; and Sober.AH (CME-681), which triggered the orange alert in November. Next in the ranking are Alcan.A responsible for 0.54% of incidents, general designation of the Qhost family, general designation of bots Gaobot, and Parite.B.
The Lowzones Trojan is the only newcomer to this month’s Top 10.QF, malicious code capable of capturing images on the screen or stealing personal data from infected computers.

This is what the top twenty viruses of March in Russia looks like:

The picture of viral infections in our country looks somewhat different than in the general world.
