Airbee and Radiocrafts AS work together on ZigBee solutions

ZigBee network seems to be starting to attract interest from manufacturers. In any case, yesterday it became known about thermostats using the ZigBee network, prepared for release by Italian developers, and today it was reported that Airbee Wireless and Radiocrafts AS announced a joint development in this area.

Radiocrafts will provide hardware for new products, Airbee will provide software. It is assumed that the joint efforts will allow integrators and OEMs to provide ZigBee solutions, as they say, on a turnkey basis.

What exactly is it about? Development of an application designated as “Serial Port Profile and I / O mapping” (SPPIO) is planned. Its mission is to provide endpoint and system designers with a set of features to quickly and cost-effectively design products for short-range wireless networks. The strength of the adopted approach is that when using SPPIO, further design does not require specialized software tools or specific knowledge. Device configuration and networking is done at a higher level of abstraction – using a set of easy-to-use AT commands.

Areas of application of solutions based on SPPIO are, for example, automation in construction; control of heating, air conditioning and air ventilation; security and other systems where it is necessary to ensure the exchange of data between the centralized observation and control point and peripheral areas.

The hardware basis for the project, as mentioned above, will be Radiocrafts products. The RC2200AT-SPPIO block designed by the specialists of this company is a completely ready-to-use ZigBee module that supports operation in the Full Function Device (FFD) and Reduced Function Device (RFD) modes. Its dimensions are 16.5 x 35.6 x 3.5 mm, including the built-in antenna. RF unit operates at 2.45 GHz. In addition to the modem for the serial port, the module has 16 digital and analog I / O lines that can be mapped to any other module on the network. Configuration is done using AT commands via the serial port.
