Turion 64 – specifications and change of release date

New information has become known about the dual-core AMD Turion 64 processors (codenamed Taylor), the debut of which was scheduled for May 9 this year. The new items will belong to the category of processors with reduced power consumption and are intended for installation in a processor socket called Socket S1 (recall, early information said that such a socket would be designed for single-core processors on the Manila core).

Each of the two cores will have a separate 256KB L2 cache. Taylor will be the first AMD processor to support DDR2-667 memory, which should offset the current advantage of Intel’s Core Duo.
Besides Taylor, we should expect Trinidad, also for compact laptops. The only difference between them will be the doubled L2 cache size of the latter. Pacifica virtualization technology, PowerNow energy saving technology will be supported! (click to enlarge).

Single-core mobile processors will be presented by Keene with 256/512 KB L2 cache. The rest of its parameters are similar to those of Taylor.
The estimated power consumption of Keene and Taylor is 25 and 35 W, respectively (click to enlarge).

In 2021, Taylor will replace Tylor, which has not only a similar name, but also specifications. The main differences will be the 65nm process used and support for DDR2-800 memory.

Well, in conclusion, news so rosy for AMD fans will have to add a fly in the ointment. According to the updated information, it is very likely that the release date of new processors will be postponed from May 9 to June 2021. The simultaneous debut of Socket S1 and Socket AM2 seems quite likely, for which, we recall, the release is scheduled for 06.06.06g.
