SONY: BKM-FW50 IP Remote Management Adapter

Quite an unusual device was released
SONY. Network adapter BKM-FW50, designed to receive streaming data,
it is a simple and inexpensive solution for efficient management of information monitors.

The BKM-FW50 adapter is a convenient accessory for selected information monitors
SONY FWD series. It plugs into the monitor’s expansion slot and then connects to the network using a standard 10BASE-T / 100BASE-TX cable.

The BKM-FW50 can deploy a broadcast control system in just a few hours.
It supports both playback of local content (if there is a memory card)
and broadcasting data over the network in real time. The FW50 does not require expensive software and does not need to pay for
additional components like hard drives for data storage.

Large organizations will be interested in the possibility of centralized broadcasting of videos from a web server over the network, followed by recording to local media and local playback. Centralized content updates to free up staff and spend saved time on other tasks.

Streaming videos and presentations can either be streamed directly from the server in real time, or written to a Compact Flash card or Microdrive and inserted into the FW50 adapter.
15 minute video in MPEG-2 format
requires about 500 MB of memory. With enough bandwidth
channel, you can broadcast video in real
time mode – in this case, no memory card is required.

Typically, FW50 adapters are installed in multiple displays and then plugged into a hub or router. The router, in turn, connects over the network to the server and the control computer. The individual monitors, each assigned a unique IP address, can then be controlled
via web interface.

Controls, including start timer, slide timer, background music and video resolution, are presented as a dedicated web page and can be used to control both network streaming and playback from memory cards and Microdrives.

This arrangement is suitable for large and medium-sized projects with multiple monitors. The simplest option is to install the FW50 adapter in a single display and connect a control computer to it. Broadcast clips are recorded on a Compact Flash card, and playback is controlled via a web page from a computer.
