Enabling SLI mode on non-SLI motherboards is possible

Not so long ago, Asrock released a patch that allows you to enable the SLI mode on its motherboard built on the basis of the ULi chipset and equipped with two PCI-Express slots. This has caused a lot of rumors and speculation among enthusiasts that this ability is common to all motherboards with two PCI-Express. However, the original version of the patch was installed only on boards with the ULi 1695/7 “Northbridge”.

Enthusiasts from the NGO HQ forum managed to modify the patch in such a way that now it can be used with any motherboard (of course, with the appropriate hardware capabilities).

Thus, owners of motherboards based on Intel 975X, Intel Q965, Intel P965, Intel 945P, VIA K8T900, ATI RD580, ATI RD480, ULi M1697, NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra, NVIDIA nForce4 4X, whose capabilities were limited due to the strict licensing policy of NVIDIA SLI technology to third-party manufacturers, given a chance to increase the performance of their system by installing a second video card. This situation looks especially piquant in the case of ATI motherboards, which, as it turned out, will be able to work in both SLI and CrossFire modes.

Naturally, users will perform the aforementioned manipulations at their own peril and risk.
