Rumors about the new Palm PDA are overgrown with details
On the PalmInfocenter website there was another batch of rumors about some details of two new products that Palm is preparing for release this fall. We are talking about the successor of the Tungsten T5 (the alleged name is Tungsten X) and the new budget PDA – Zire 22. Both models are said to have already appeared in the inventory system of a large retailer.
So the Tungsten X will replace the discontinued Tungsten T5. The new pocket computer will run Palm OS Garnet v5.four.9 and will inherit all the successful design solutions used in its predecessor: a sleek body, a large screen, convenient controls. At the heart of the novelty is the XScale processor, operating at a frequency of 312 MHz (a relatively low frequency, obviously, was chosen to reduce power consumption and extend battery life). The PDA will be equipped with a color display 320 x 480 pixels, 128 MB of non-volatile memory, 802.11b Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 1.2. As with earlier models, an SDIO slot is used to expand memory and connect additional devices. It is possible that the X will have a built-in microphone and camera. MSRP – $ 299.
As for the Zire 22, it is clearly aimed at less demanding buyers, who will get the opportunity for a small amount of practice to assess how much they need a “pickpocket” (now the Zire 31 is suitable for this role). The color screen Zire 22 has a square shape, traditional for inexpensive Palm models and a resolution of 160 x 160 pixels, 32 MB of internal memory and an SDIO expansion slot. The retail price of the Zire 22 is $ 99.
