EPoX EP-9U1697 GLI Motherboard – An Inexpensive Alternative to SLI Boards
EPoX unveils low-cost EP-9U1697 GLI motherboard for AMD Socket 939 processors. The board, despite its low price, has, nevertheless, a very interesting feature, which we will talk about below.
Let’s take a look at the basic features of the EPoX EP-9U1697 GLI:
- Supported processors: AMD Athlon-64 and Athlon-64 FX Socket 939
- 4 slots for DDR SDRAM DIMM (up to 4 GB DDR200 / 266/333/400, dual-channel operation is possible with symmetric filling of slots)
- 2 PCIe x8 / 16 slots for external graphics accelerator
- 1 PCIe x1 slot
- 3 PCI slots
- FDD connector
- 2 x IDE (Parallel ATA) for 4 ATA133 devices
- 4 x SATA-II (Serial ATA II) for 4 SATA-300 devices, connected drives can be combined into a RAID array of levels 0, 1, 0 + 1, 5
- Ethernet 100 / 100Mbps
- Audio codec Realtek ALC655, 6 channels
- 8 USB ports 2.0.
As you can see, the main difference from potentially competing motherboards based on NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI is a relatively simple audio codec, a slower network adapter and the absence of FireWire.
But there are two connectors for installing video cards at once – which, obviously, was the reason for the presence of the GLI suffix in the name – this is actually a full-fledged alternative to SLI – after all, the motherboard is based on the ULi M1697 chipset, on which, as we wrote, by installation of the driver, the joint work of two video cards is activated.
At the same time, the price of EPoX EP-9U1697 GLI, which should go on sale this month, should be significantly lower than that of solutions based on nForce 4 SLI.
