Fujitsu robot “enon” goes on limited sale

Japanese company Fujitsu has completed the development of a robot capable of performing the functions of a receptionist. The new 130 cm tall model is equipped with an ultrasonic sensor and six cameras to help avoid obstacles. She bears the name “enon”, which is an acronym for “exciting nova on network”. As conceived by the developers, the name reflects the idea of a robot capable of autonomously interacting with users, while remaining part of the network.

As for the fields of application of the robot, it can accompany visitors, serve as a guide, carry things to a specified location and observe the situation to ensure safety. The robot is equipped with a voice interface and a color screen on the “chest” for interaction with users. For transportation of objects, an internal compartment in the middle of the hull is used. “Electronic receptionist” is able to deliver things to a predetermined place or bring them to the user, in response to a command from his side. To monitor the situation and “patrol” the site, the robot uses built-in video cameras and the route obtained over the network. In addition, at the command of the operator, “enon” can look into a specific place and inspect it.

The robot will be shown to the public at the 23rd annual conference of the Japan Robotics Society, which opens in Tokyo today, as well as at the 2021 International Robot Show in Tokyo at the end of November.

Currently, a limited pre-sale of the novelty has begun in the Japanese market at a price of about 50 thousand. dollars (the company intends to sell 30 units). Deliveries for completed orders are scheduled for the end of November. It is possible that the analysis of the practical application of the robot will serve as the basis for making a decision on mass production.
