Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 is the new performance leader in anticipation of Conroe
A few months ago, Intel released its first Extreme Edition processor using a 65nm process, the Pentium Extreme Edition 955 (955XE). The dual-core 955XE is clocked at 3.46 GHz and has been Intel’s fastest desktop processor for a relatively long time. In addition, thanks to the 65nm process technology, its power consumption is much lower than that of the previous generation, despite a 10% increase in clock speed and twice the cache (4 MB versus 2 MB).
Currently, Intel is leaving the Netburst architecture, but in anticipation of products based on Conroe and Merom cores, the company considered it necessary to release Pentium Extreme Edition 965 based on the new Presler core stepping, which is less “voracious” and, accordingly, has a lower level of heat dissipation.

However, it is currently the fastest Intel processor, and the Conroe is still on the way. Pentium Extreme Edition 965 is expected to hit the market on April 1st this year.
