Imation unveiled today its new development Ulysses – the first removable disk cartridge. Ulysses has been designed to radically enhance tape automation by integrating a hard disk drive (HDD) into a standard tape cartridge for use in any tape library environment.
The new technology is intended for tape users who want to implement disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backups to reduce recovery time without introducing new ones
systems or investments in new hardware or software.
Ulysses is a 2.5 ” Serial SATA hard drive,
enclosed in an LTO Ultrium cartridge. Using a tape emulator

Imation’s Ulysses product launch slated for 2021.
