Samsung begins mass production of Mobile DRAM 512 MB at 90 nm
Samsung Electronics Announces Mass Production of 512MB Mobile DRAM in a 90nm Process. According to the company, this is the first “mobile” memory produced under such standards. The development was announced in January this year.
The speed and memory requirements of phones and other portable electronics are increasing under the influence of 3D graphics tools increasingly implemented in such devices. Samsung’s new memory is designed to be connected to a 32-bit data bus and is capable of transferring data at 1.3 Gb / s.
By combining two new chips into a “two-story” design, Samsung gives developers the ability to add a whole gigabyte of memory to a mobile device by installing just one chip.
According to the manufacturer, the new memory has another important advantage over the traditionally used SDRAM memory – about half the power consumption.
