MRV presented CWDM / DWDM solutions

MRV, a provider of metro IP and fiber optic solutions, has announced the start of delivering WDM solutions for the FiberDriver platform. New solutions for this line allow you to build scalable full-featured CWDM or DWDM networks using the already installed base of standard chassis of the FiberDriver family.

FiberDriver modular converter platform has been produced for almost 10 years and has been installed by many customers, including the largest telecom operators in Russia. During this time, it has established itself as a reliable solution for building carrier-grade transport networks. Today, when the issues of densification of the existing fiber-optic infrastructure become extremely urgent, the FiberDriver platform makes it possible to use already installed chassis of this family for solving these problems.

WDM solutions for the FiberDriver platform are a set of modules that fit into existing 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 16-slot chassis in this family. They are divided into transponders and passive multiplexers / demultiplexers and OADMs.

Any converter modules that have slots for replaceable SFP or XFP interfaces can be used as WDM transponders (devices that transmit an input signal at one of the CWDM / DWDM wavelengths) on the FiberDriver platform. These include devices such as the EM316DMR3G-3R dual media converter, which provides two-channel transmission at speeds up to 3.2 Gbps, the EM316EFRMAHSH and EM316GRMAHSH converters, which provide Fast and Gigabit Ethernet signals, respectively, the EM316-2XFP repeater designed to operate with 10 gigabit protocols. The use of replaceable SFP and XFP interfaces in these modules operating at CWDM (from 1310 to 1610 nm) or DWDM (44 C-band channels according to ITU) turns them into transponders for the corresponding protocols and wavelengths.

The second component of DWDM solutions is passive multiplexer / demultiplexer modules that combine signals received from transponders for transmission over a pair of fibers or one fiber. MRV has released a wide range of such modules also installed in the FiberDriver chassis. These include 4-, 8- and 16-channel modules for CWDM and 8-, 16- and 32-channel modules for DWDM. To build ring topologies, where one or more wavelengths are required to be output or input at intermediate points in the network, OADM modules have been released, which are designed for 1, 2, 4 and 8 wavelengths.

An important component of CWDM / DWDM solutions for the FiberDriver platform is also the new EM316LNXNM-OT control module, which is optimized for operation in optical transport networks of any topology and has two SFP slots for creating a dedicated control channel within a WDM trunk.

In the future, the range of modules for the FiberDriver platform, allowing to build WDM solutions, is planned to be expanded. Thus, a number of media converters (including dual-channel ones) with SFP slots will be released, which can be easily used as CWDM / DWDM transponders for various protocols. It is also planned to release a new module of the optical amplifier EM316-EDFA, which provides a significant increase in the operating range for DWDM networks.
