Internet and networks: UserGate – now with a “transparent proxy”
ESafeline announces the introduction of UserGate 4 NAT proxy server driver.0 transparent proxy mechanism. The principle of transparent proxy operation is based on forwarding client requests intercepted by the NAT driver to the UserGate HTTP proxy port.
Before the introduction of this function, local network users had to specify the proxy address and port in the LAN settings of the browser. Configuring a proxy through domain group policy simplified the task, but did not change the essence of the problem – the proxy address and port should have been specified in the settings. Using the NAT driver made it possible to do without specifying a proxy on client machines. However, in this case, the network administrator could not restrict user access to sites of certain content. Transparent proxy technology allows client requests to be redirected from the standard TCP port to the HTTP port. This greatly simplifies the customization of the client side.
Thus, the transparent proxy feature allows users to work without having to tune in to a proxy server, and administrators are freed from the need to manually configure users’ browsers.
The fourth version of UserGate proxy server was introduced to the market in December last year. The innovation is the built-in firewall (firewall), which protects the server from intrusions and unauthorized access. Also in the latest version there is a function of integrating the proxy server with the e-serve mail server.
UserGate proxy server is a full-featured solution that allows an administrator to organize the work of local network users on the Internet using a flexible system of rules. The proxy server accurately counts traffic using a NAT driver, has a built-in firewall, port mapping, billing system and Internet statistics system. The program is easy to set up and easy to use.
