MRV Expands Line of 10 Gigabit DWDM Transponders with Tunable Lasers

MRV has announced the release of new models of 10-Gigabit transponders for the WDM platform of the LambdaDriver family, designed to work at distances up to 160 km. They are equipped with tunable lasers and can operate at any wavelength from the DWDM C-band in accordance with the software settings. The appearance of these transponders is the next step towards the implementation of the concept of flexible DWDM networks, built on the basis of fully reconfigurable equipment. The use of transponders with tunable lasers allows you to reduce the cost of maintaining a stock of spare parts, since one such device can operate on any of the DWDM wavelengths, which eliminates the need to have a spare transponder for each of them.

The TM-DXFP16T transponder, designed to operate at distances up to 160 km, complements the rest of the series, including the TM-DXFP8T, TM-DXFP12T and TM-DXFP20T transponders, designed for use on optical lines up to 80, 120 and 200 km, respectively. Transponders of this line differ in optical parameters, so for the 80-kilometer model, the minimum laser radiation power is 0 dBm, while for the TM-DXFP12T, TM-DXFP16T and TM-DXFP20T devices it can exceed +4.5 dBm.

The minimum sensitivity of the receiving device for all transponders is -23dBm. The optical budget parameters of the TM-DXFP12T, TM-DXFP16T and TM-DXFP20T transponders are the same, only the levels of permissible dispersion differ in accordance with the declared operating distances. This means that optical amplifiers must be used to operate at distances from 120 to 200 km.

The TM-DXFP12T, TM-DXFP16T, and TM-DXFP20T provide long distance operation without the need for dispersion compensators, which typically significantly limit communication ranges at high data rates.

Custom laser transponders support a variety of 10 Gigabit protocols such as OC-192, 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Fiber Channel. They can operate on any of the ITU-T DWDM C-band wavelengths and are designed to fit into existing LambdaDriver chassis (LD400, LD800 and LD1600) to work in conjunction with standard multiplexer / demultiplexer and input / output multiplexer (OADM) models for this platform running EM800-MNGD modules.
