In the absence of the need for physical connection of individual working units, the density of such microcircuits can be much higher than that of those produced using transistors. Energy losses due to the absence of conductors are also much lower for such solutions, as a result of which the energy consumption of future chips can be significantly lower than that of existing ones.
Computers using magnetic memory technology will be able to boot almost instantly and will be resistant to power outages, as the data is retained in such chips even when the power is off. Due to the ease of reprogramming and versatility of such solutions, they can be used in various fields – from gaming platforms to medical equipment.
Nanomagnets of the innovative chip with a size of only 110 nm are created from a ferronickel alloy deposited on a silicon substrate using electron beam lithography technology. They can be arranged in the order corresponding to the construction of logic microcircuits from transistors. Thanks to this, the development of French scientists, although it is not the first to use nanomagnets (quite a lot is known, for example, about magnetoresistive memory MRAM), is unique in that it can be used to create chips that process information, and not only store it.
