Logitech io2 Digital Pen

Logitech unveils new digital pen at CeBIT – Logitech io2 Digital Pen. Your device instantly converts your handwritten notes to digital format, providing improved handwriting recognition capabilities and new character abbreviations to help you efficiently convert your notes to Microsoft Word documents.

An optical sensor is located next to the pen in the pen, which records the coordinate of the position of the pen relative to the paper. And paper is needed not simple, but special. While you write on it, the coordinates transmitted by the optical sensor are reset to memory. Next, you put your pen in the holder, the data from memory is transferred to the PC, and special software translates the coordinates into an image, which is subsequently recognized. Each commercially available kit comes with an A5 notebook that uses special paper. Each page of the notebook is unique, so when you return to the entry on the previous page, the software recognizes this and the corresponding fragment will be corrected. You can find out more about the principle of operation of the device here.

The digital pen’s handwriting recognition software “learns” the user’s vocabulary and his (or her) individual handwriting, allowing for a more accurate digital conversion of handwritten notes.

Logitech’s ioTags feature allows the wearer to send portions of their handwritten notes directly to an email application or organizer using symbolic abbreviations. Logitech’s ioTags feature was first introduced last September. It currently allows direct linking of digital pen and Microsoft Word documents. When the pen is placed in the holder, the selected entries are displayed on the screen, showing in separate windows both the handwritten entries themselves and the automatically converted digital text. Users just press one button to transfer the text into a Word document, or they can edit the text first, comparing it on the screen with their handwritten notes. When using a digital pen, you can return to images of your original handwritten notes at any time, as they are automatically saved when you place the pen in the holder.

When configuring the device, the pen software searches the user’s contact database in Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes and automatically adds those names to the Logitech io2 dictionary. When they are encountered during recognition, they will be correctly converted from handwritten notes to digital text format. To further adapt the user’s personal vocabulary, the io2 pen software periodically checks individual dictionaries from all Microsoft Office applications.

The Logitech io2 Digital Pen is finished in black and silver and will go on sale in Europe and the United States in early May for a suggested price of $ 180.
