Icron patents USB 2 range extension.0

Icron Technologies Corporation, the author of ExtremeUSB technology, announced that it received a patent for its development from the United Kingdom Patent Office.

The patent, titled “Method and apparatus for extending the range of the universal serial bus protocol”, is based on a previously obtained patent relating to increasing the “range” of USB 1.one. The invention provides interaction at a long distance between the controller (high-speed, 480 Mb / s) and peripherals (full-speed, 12 Mb / s). Supports peripheral devices introduced after USB 2 specifications.0.

Icron ExtremeUSB 2 technology.0 enables PC, peripheral and consumer electronics manufacturers to extend the range of USB 2.0 via wired (up to 100 m over Category 5 unshielded twisted pair), fiber optic (up to 2000 m), or wireless (no range limitation) with no changes to the USB ecosystem. Supports Windows, MAC OS, Linux, Unix and Solaris operating systems. The developer emphasizes that no changes are required in the controllers and peripherals. Range extenders work transparently for other hardware and software.

ExtremeUSB is the only USB-IF compliant extension of its kind. It is already in use in many areas, including industrial automation, medical devices, aerospace, computer networking. ExtremeUSB technology is available in licenses, OEM modules, development kits, and off-the-shelf products.
