Why there are so many X800s?
As you know, ATI has added another member to the X800 family – X800 GTO. Taking into account the two variants of the GTO: with 256 MB of memory operating at 490 MHz, and 128 MB – 350 MHz, the total number of X800 variants has reached nine. On the one hand, the X800 GTO looks a bit more powerful than the GT, since the number of pixel pipelines in the new card is 12, not 8 like in the GT. On the other hand, the memory on the two cards is identical, and the core frequency of the X800 GT outperforms the new product (475 MHz versus 400 MHz). Summarizing the main parameters of the X800 family cards, we get the following picture:

So, in terms of real performance as a function of price, the X800 GTO 256 MB sits roughly between the X800 XL 256 MB, which costs about 300 euros, and the X800 GT 256 MB, which sells for 180 euros. And the time during which such tricks with reincarnation will be possible is also limited: most likely, at the end of this – beginning of next year, GTOs will be discontinued.
