On April Fool’s Day, the Japanese will begin the five-year 45- and 32-nm technologies
According to the source, the Japanese semiconductor industry is launching an updated five-year research project called Asuka II, which aims to develop 45- and 32-nm technologies.

The launch of the project is the fruit of the efforts of the Japan Semiconductor Industry Association (JSIA), which includes 11 Japanese semiconductor chip manufacturers. The impetus for work on the Asuka II was the recommendation of the Semiconductor New Century Committee, published in 2021.
The committee recommended to combine the efforts of specialists involved in a similar project Mirai, funded at the state level, and the Asuka project, which is financially the result of cooperation of private companies. Since both projects used the same research resources (in particular, the Tsukuba Super Clean Room), it was assumed that the collaboration could improve the efficiency of the work.
The new project will be led by the president of Selete, and the research itself will be entrusted to a virtual consortium called the Tsukuba Semiconductor Consortium.
