IDE to USB 2.0 and back
Some time ago, TheGadgeteer website published an article about a device that allows you to connect an IDE drive to a USB 2 port.0. Strictly speaking, such an adapter cable cannot be called a novelty, but it is of certain interest, so let’s get to know the Brando product better.
As you can see in the picture, the cable has a double-sided connector, which allows for the connection of 3.5- and 2.5-inch drives. Implemented support for USB 2.0 (speed up to 480 Mbps).
An external power supply is used to power the drives. It operates on an alternating voltage network of 100-240 V with a frequency of 50 or 60 Hz and provides two voltages at the output: 12 V (current power – 2 A) and 5 V (2 A). Thus, the power of the source is sufficient to power a hard disk drive or an optical disc reader and writer.
Since the connection uses a standard USB port, the product is compatible with IBM-compatible PCs and Apple computers. Device price – $ 35.
