Samsung adopts new SoC design technology
Semiconductor design software company Magma Design Automation announced that Samsung Electronics has designed a single-chip system for mobile applications that will be fabricated to 90nm. The system consists of 13 million valves. A feature of the development is the use of Magma technologies: Blast Fusion, Blast Power, Blast Rail NX and Blast Noise. According to Magma, it was the use of these tools that allowed the South Korean semiconductor manufacturer to meet the requirements for power consumption, timing and chip area, while accelerating the development cycle.
In particular, Blast Fusion and Blast Power provide the ability to optimize the power consumption of SoC blocks. Energy analysis is fully integrated into the design cycle. In addition, the arrangement of MTCMOS keys is provided. These keys are installed in the places of commutation of global power buses of the system and local power buses of individual units. Thus, these units in the finished product can be de-energized in order to save energy if their functions are not needed at the moment.
Blast Noise module is used to monitor the integrity of signals within the system. Interaction with Blast Fusion allows it to automatically analyze the situation and adjust the design to eliminate crosstalk, cross-delays and other similar problems. Automatic correction during design at the “physical layer” eliminates a separate stage of analysis and correction after the completion of the layout development, which is typical for some other design technologies.
