CAP-XX Announces BriteFlash Technology to Increase Flash Efficiency on Camera Phones

CAP-XX offers a new technology (power architecture) – BriteFlash, which enables efficient operation of LED flash on camera phones. This, in turn, will significantly improve the quality of photographs obtained with these devices.

Some manufacturers tried to solve the problem of insufficient lighting during photography by increasing the shutter speed, but this only led to a noticeable “blurring” of the resulting images, which did not solve the original problem, but only added new troubles.

According to CAP-XX specialists, their BriteFlash technology is able to solve the problem of low light and at the same time not “blur” pictures. The experimental flash samples used high-capacity, low-resistance capacitors, which ensured the maximum achievable brightness of the LEDs.

Anthony Kongats, CEO of CAP-XX, commented on the development of BriteFlash: “Cameras with a resolution of more than 2MP require powerful flash units to capture high definition images in low to medium light conditions. Existing solutions are only partial, i.e.to. do not provide an adequate level of power to the flashes. BriteFlash will eliminate the existing problem of insufficient lighting “.

To demonstrate the capabilities of BriteFlash, CAP-XX engineers dissected
a camera phone that was capable of providing a 1-watt flash of 160 ms duration and replaced the LEDs and installed powerful capacitors. As a result, the modified phone was able to provide a 15W flash of the same duration.

The problem is that modern LED cells require high voltage for their operation, which standard lithium-ion batteries cannot provide. Therefore, engineers have to develop intermediate auxiliary solutions, such as DC / DC converters, that will provide a 400% increase in the voltage required to operate the LED. In principle, the CAP-XX solution is similar to xenon flashes in digital
cameras, however, it is claimed to be more efficient and more compact.
