Intel will try to seize the initiative by introducing its variant of a quad-core processor
Intel is going to showcase a quad-core processor on Friday, according to a source.
Covertown. As expected, it targets the high-performance server segment. According to reports, the total L2 cache will be 4 MB (1 MB per core), not 8 MB, as previously reported by some sources. Other technical details are not yet known.
According to unverified data, in the design of the “four-pipe”, the same approach was used as for the creation of the first dual-core samples. To a very rough approximation – two dual-core processors were placed in a common case. The new microcircuit is expected on sale not earlier than December.
Intel is clearly striving to seize the initiative from AMD by all means. Recall that the latter managed to get ahead of its competitor in the race of dual-core processors. Obviously, the lesson was not in vain. How successful Intel’s revised strategy turns out to be – time will tell.
In return, AMD held a limited demo of its quad-core processor back in October last year. According to the company’s plans, the start of mass production of this type of product is scheduled for early 2021. According to experts, the market situation will push AMD to start mass production in November-December this year. The industry adoption of AMD Quad-Core processors will make it much easier to be compatible with existing platforms.
