The HD era has officially begun
Over the past week, the situation with the support of modern video cards for high-definition video playback has gone through phases from raising the issue to its resolution, although not too comforting for their owners. It’s hard to say if the following news will comfort the owners of $ 500-600 graphics adapters, who today are unable to play high-definition video on their systems.
Founders of the copyright organization AACS LA (ADVANCED ACCESS CONTENT SYSTEM), IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic (Matsushita Electric), Sony, Toshiba, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Studios, have announced that they have approved the licensing terms.
Compliance with AACS specifications is essential for products that use Blu-Ray and HD DVD standards and many others to go to market, including TV panels, HD video graphics cards.
The final version of the license agreement is expected within the next few months, however, companies that produce consumer electronics, computer components, and participants in the entertainment industry can already release their products that comply with the published specifications and norms.
For the consumer, this means that the release of Blu-Ray and HD DVD will not be delayed for licensing reasons, as well as new graphic cards (and possibly revisions of existing ones) will support high-definition video playback. Fortunately, the AACS license costs only 15 thousand. dollars plus 0.5 cents for each device, which should not be an obstacle even for not the largest manufacturers. The gateway to the HD era is officially open.
