Fujitsu moves to 65nm norm
Fujitsu has officially announced the availability of its manufacturing processes for the manufacture of logic circuits and systems-on-a-chip (SoC, system-on-a-chip) in compliance with 65 nm standards. Thus, the company “entered the club” of manufacturers ready to switch to 65-nm standards, which already include Intel, Toshiba, TI and TSMC.
To be precise, Fujitsu introduced two 65nm processes, CS200 and CS200A, which are intended for ASIC and COT (customer-owned tooling). Both processors can create transistors 25% smaller than their 90nm counterparts. The gate length of CS200 / CS200A transistors is 30 nm, nickel is used instead of polycrystalline silicon and cobalt, which provides lower gate resistance.
CS200 and CS200A use 11 layers of copper conductors instead of 10, which should allow for complex systems-on-a-chip. In addition to copper, Fujitsu processes use ultra low-k porous dielectrics.
The CS200 series is dedicated to the production of high-performance server processors. CS200A is adapted for mobile devices, such as core logic processors and applications for mobile phones, laptops or other devices that have high requirements for economy.
Fujitsu is currently accepting orders for production starting in the first calendar quarter of 2021. CS200 and CS200A chips will be available in BGA and FC-BGA form factor.
