Three new products from Panasonic: Lumix DMC-LS2, DMC-LZ3 and DMC-LZ5 cameras

Matsushita Electric Industrial (owner of the Panasonic trademark) introduced three new digital cameras: Lumix DMC-LS2, Lumix DMC-LZ3 and Lumix DMC-LZ5.

The Lumix DMC-LS2 is a 5-megapixel 3x optical zoom camera, the official replacement for the popular budget Lumix DMC-LS1. At the same time, the novelty turned out to be more stylish and compact.

Despite its “budget” and compactness, Lumix DMC-LS2 boasts a proprietary optical image stabilization system MEGA O.I.S. and the Venus Engine Plus image processor for continuous shooting at maximum resolution at up to 3 frames per second. Claimed shutter lag time of just 0.009 sec.

With regards to the availability of MEGA O.I.S., the manufacturer believes that the optical image stabilization system is an absolute must for all compact digital cameras, as their low weight and small size invariably increase the likelihood of “blurry” images.

Lumix DMC-LS2 specifications:

  • Sensor: 1 / 2.5 “CCD, 5.0MP
  • Lens: 3x zoom, 5.8-17.4 mm (35-105 mm in 35-mm equiv.), F: 2.8-F: 5.0

  • Sensitivity: ISO 80, 100, 200, 400, auto
  • Minimum focusing distance: 50 cm (macro from 5 cm)
  • Exposure compensation: +/- 2.0 EV in 1/3 EV steps
  • Bracketing: 3 frames, +/- 1/3 EV – 1 EV
  • Video: 320×240 pixels, 10 or 30 frames./ sec.
  • Self-timer: 2 or 10 sec.

Lumix DMC-LZ3 and Lumix DMC-LZ5 6x optical zoom cameras replace DMC-LZ1 and DMC-LZ2.

Lumix DMC-LZ3 is equipped with a 5-megapixel matrix and a 2.0-inch LCD display.
In the Lumix DMC-LZ5 model, the matrix resolution is increased to 6 megapixels (with the same physical dimensions), and a 2.5-inch LCD is installed. The rest of the cameras are identical.

Both found application of the company’s proprietary developments – the MEGA O optical image stabilization system.I.S. and image processor Venus Engine Plus.
The manufacturer claims a record-low shutter lag time for cameras of this class – 0.005 sec. for model LZ5 and 0.006 sec. for LZ3.

DMC-LZ3 (DMC-LZ5) specifications:

  • Sensor: 1 / 2.5 “CCD, 5.0MP (6.0MP)
