Microsoft: “Control the computer with your feet? Why not?”

Many ideas in the field of high technologies at the stage of their inception cause a smile, and only much later the attitude of users towards them changes to “how could we live without this before?”

It is these ideas that may include the development of Microsoft specialists, who made a multi-colored “dance mat” on which the user can, stepping on certain zones, perform actions that are currently assigned to the mouse and not only. The scrolling of the contents of the window is originally made – for it you need to jump on such a rug. Naturally, the device complements the corresponding software.

The idea goes back to dance mats used in games, the popularity of which in Japan and the United States can be compared, perhaps, only to karaoke in our country. A prime example of such a game is the Dance Dance Revolution series.

The developers have announced that they do not intend to stop there and improve their invention in such a way that it could take into account pressing force and other parameters. So, who knows, maybe someday users will be typing with their feet under the table.

Note that the Step User Interface technology is just the only one of more than 150 concepts that will be demonstrated by the Microsoft research division during the TechFest.
