The market for storage networks and clusters continues to grow, and Unix is gaining ground from Windows, analysts at Evans Data say
Research by Evans Data confirms the main trend in the corporate sector in the world of computing: mainframes continue to give way to data storage networks and compute clusters.
Nearly 60% of surveyed enterprise developers expect an increase in the share of storage area networks (SANs) and clusters in the next two years. At the same time, a third of survey participants expect a decrease in the use of mainframes. Interestingly, mobile applications are also predicted to grow – 52% of respondents indicated a planned increase in their use.
Other results from a survey of 400 corporate developers that may generate interest:
- The J2EE platform (Java 2 Enterprise Edition) is used by more than 60% of developers for large business, which is 11% more than six months ago, while in small and medium-sized businesses, the percentage of developers choosing J2EE does not exceed 40%.
- Over the past year, the use of Unix (all variants, including Mac OS X but excluding Linux) in the corporate environment has increased by almost 40%, while Windows (all versions) has decreased by 18%.
