ATI unveils performance graphics cards for Mobility Radeon X1800 and X1800 XT notebooks

A fairly large number of gaming laptops have been announced recently, and almost all of them use discrete graphics from NVIDIA. Its main competitor, ATI, does not want to put up with this state of affairs and announces the Mobility Radeon X1800 and X1800 XT adapters, mobile analogues of its high-performance graphics cards for desktop systems.

Both new GPUs are manufactured using 90nm manufacturing process and have over 312 million transistors. Naturally, new ATI video cards support DirectX 9 and Avivo technologies.

Mobility Radeon X1800 has a PCI Express x16 interface, 12 pixel pipelines and operates at 450 MHz (core) / 500 MHz (memory). The Mobility X1800 XT differs in the presence of 16 pixel pipelines and higher clock speeds – 550 MHz (core) / 650 MHz (memory). Both graphics cores work with DDR1 / DDR2 / GDDR3 memory via a 256-bit interface, equipped with 8 vertex pipelines.

As you can see from the description, the memory frequency is significantly lower than the desktop versions, so you can’t expect performance from laptops equivalent to similar desktops.

The timing of the sale of ready-made laptops using the new ATI video cards has not been reported, but it is known that they will be released by Alienware, Boxx, Eurocom, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Hypersonic, Savrow and Voodoo PC.
