Planar monitors for medicine

Planar Systems, a provider of professional displays for the industrial, commercial and medical markets, introduces the new Dome EX series of LCD monitors optimized for medical applications. It consists of color and black-and-white displays with reduced response time, increased brightness and contrast in relation to previous products of the company.

The special attention to the display of shades of gray is due to the medical positioning of new products. The fact is that gray patterns are more informative and easier to perceive in cases when it comes to the transmission of a density gradient or the distribution of the intensity of the reaction of living tissue to the impact. This is especially true for radiology, radiology, nuclear magnetic resonance, computed tomography. In fact, the resulting picture is monochrome, and the coloring of zones of different intensities in different colors makes perception difficult and takes time to get used to. Therefore, the company pays such attention in the characteristics of displays to the number of unique shades of gray that they can convey (column “bit depth” in the table). In addition, another unusual moment in the description – the resolution is indicated not linear, but in megapixels, like in camera matrices. By the way, everyone knows linear resolutions for various numbers of megapixels of cameras, so it’s not difficult to estimate them, and we will not fantasize and give the characteristics in the format in which the manufacturer declares them.

Particular attention is drawn to Dome E4c – the first color model of the company with a resolution of 4 Mpixels and a screen format of 16: 9, here is her photo.

It is intended either for displaying two pictures at once, or for comments on the image. In this case, there is no need to use a dual-monitor output, there is no frame in the middle of the image. Also noted is the monochrome model Dome E5, which can display more than 90% of the image from the most sensitive computer radiographs without scaling.

Monitors work with a large number of commercially available video accelerators compatible with OpenGL and DirectX. All series support real-time DICOM image calibration based on the built-in Planar RightLight photometer powered by Dome CXtra software. In addition to it, the kit comes with a Dome Dashboard program for centralized control of the output to a group of monitors and monitoring their status.

Dome E3 is already available to order, Dome E2 is expected to be available in the channels in early December, the rest of the models will be available for free in early 2021. No pricing information yet.
