Fujitsu has succeeded in developing heatsinks for semiconductor devices based on nanotubes. According to the developer, nanotubes can amplify the signal and dissipate heat at the same time.

Carbon nanotubes are cylindrical structures 2 nm in diameter made of pure carbon. They attract researchers as the most promising technology for the transition to nanoscale in the semiconductor industry. Some experts predict the role of nanotubes replacing traditional transistors in memory chips and processors. Fujitsu was able to establish that nanotubes not only demonstrate high strength and excellent electrical conduction, but also exceed the thermal characteristics of metals in use today.

The use of nanotubes is especially important in high-frequency devices. They turned out to be more effective than metals in the role of connectors between the electrodes of the crystal and the terminals of the case, removing the heat generated by the transistors.
