Memorex FlashDisc will “finish” floppy disks

While the market for NAND flash memory is experiencing an increase in prices, and primarily for high-density microcircuits, Memorex has found use for less dense chips, and the company positions its solution as an alternative to floppy disks (floppy disks). The Memorex FlashDisc, housed in a protective plastic floppy-shaped casing, supports USB and aims to fill the niche of low-cost portable storage devices.

The FlashDisc diameter, however, is slightly smaller – 2.3 instead of the usual 3.5 inches. Thickness – 0.3 ” or 7.5mm. Each flash drive has a capacity of 16MB, more than 10 times the capacity of 3.5-inch floppy disks. However, by analogy with floppy disks, Memorex is going to sell them in packs (so far – three pieces for $ 20, that is, the price of one will be almost seven dollars), and if things go well, then upon reaching large sales, the FlashDisc price really will decline and who knows, maybe in ten years, such flash disks will be as cheap as modern magnetic?

Finally, sellers of computer parts or other electronic devices related to computers will be able to use FlashDisc to write drivers and unique programs instead of the 3.5-inch floppy disks used so far.
