NVIDIA completes acquisition of ULi, ATI will have to switch to its “south bridge”
NVIDIA announced two days ago that the takeover of ULi Electronics was complete. Among other things, this means that ULi products for ATI chipsets have been discontinued.
With reference to Taiwanese motherboard manufacturers, the source reports that ATI Technologies is probably already conducting, and possibly has completed the development of its own version of the “South Bridge”. At the moment, any information about the new product can be classified as a rumor, since, as you know, ATI does not comment on information about products before their official announcement. Nevertheless, it can be assumed that the new “south bridge”, in fact, will soon be presented to the public.
By the way, according to the source, ATI also tried to acquire ULi, but offered less than its competitor. Recall that about six months before the takeover, ULi began mass production of the M1575 South Bridge for joint use with ATI’s North Bridge for systems based on AMD processors.
Meanwhile, it is assumed that at least part of ULi products will be available after the takeover, but under a different brand – possibly NVIDIA?
